Singapore math placement tests:
Singapore Math placement tests for primary math series are now posted on our website and are available to check what your child's grade level is.
To decide which Singapore math level is appropriate, first let your child take the test at the level you think he or she is. If the child scores 80% or
above, let him or her take the next level test. If the score is below 80%, let him or her take the test at one level lower. Start the textbooks and
workbooks at the lowest level the child is unable to score 80% or above.
An overall score of 80% and above on a test is a good indicator that the student has the skills to go on to the next level.

If you read aloud to your kids, the chances are that your parents did the same for you. The experience of being read to as a child is so powerful and
memorable that you will want to pass it on to your own children. If, on the other hand, you are the "first generation" to read aloud to your kids, you will
be interested to know that you are bringing to your family a whole range of lasting benefits which will make a difference to the destiny of your family
members for generations to come.
Language involves a highly specialized set of skills. It takes years to learn to speak and even longer to learn to read. Mankind spends more time on raising
its young than any other species on Earth. Let us admit it, cultural achievements are so complex that it will require a decade of intensive study on
our part for us to master it or acquire even the basic notions. This knowledge is, of course, passed on to us mostly at school and almost entirely in
written form.
Intellectual achievements took an upturn when the printing press was invented in 1450, although it took a few more centuries for the general public to start
to read. The earlier a parent or guardian can make reading natural to the child, the better he or she will be able to assimilate school material later in
life. Reading aloud to small children is directly associated with college achievement. More than half of those who read to their children are college
graduates, most are women. Only 44% of mothers who have reached high school level find time to read with their pre-school age children. For those who did
not complete high school, the figure is lower, at 38%. Almost two thirds of white, non-hispanic children, are likely to be read to, as opposed to 41% of
black, non-Hispanic children and 33% of Hispanic children.

The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants
“The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants” is the first book in a series of four bestselling young adult novels by Ann Brashares.
The novels tell the continuing story of four girls who acquire a pair of magical jeans that fit all four of them, even though they're all different shapes and sizes.
Introduced as babies who were born to mothers who met in a prenatal aerobics class, the four grew up together and developed an enduring bond despite their distinctly different emerging personalities.
Now, after years of sharing every triumph and loss, every wild idea and secret fear with the laughter and love of true friends, these four young women
couldn’t be closer… except that they’re about to be separated as their lives take them in different directions for the first time.
Introspective and occasionally volatile Carmen (AMERICA FERRERA) is looking forward to spending quality time with her out-of-state dad,
whom she hasn’t seen much since he divorced her mother years ago; super-confident star athlete Bridget (BLAKE LIVELY) is heading for a soccer camp in Mexico;
soft-spoken Lena (ALEXIS BLEDEL), a gifted artist as beautiful as her drawings, is set to discover her heritage – and an unexpected romance – on a trip to
her grandparents’ home in Greece; and sharp-witted rebel Tibby (AMBER TAMBLYN) will reluctantly remain in town, stocking shelves at the local discount store

On a shopping trip together the day before their paths diverge, the friends find a pair of thrift-shop jeans that amazingly fits and flatters each one of
them perfectly, even though they are four young women of very different shapes and sizes. It seems these pants are meant for sharing and that gives Carmen,
Bridget, Lena and Tibby a wonderful idea. They decide to use the pants as a way of keeping in touch during the months ahead, each one wearing them for a
week to see what luck they bring before mailing them on to the next.
In this unique way, though miles apart, the four still experience the challenges and surprises of life as they always have – together – in a summer
they’ll never forget.
The book is followed by "The Second Summer of the Sisterhood", "Girls in Pants: The Third Summer of the Sisterhood" and "Forever in Blue: The fourth Summer
of the Sisterhood".
